Independence police release photos in statue theft

Updated: 2013-06-18T23:46:32Z

Independence police are asking for help identifying people of interest in the weekend theft of a statue outside the National Frontier Trails Museum.

The pictures are surveillance images from a metal salvage business. Police are interested in a shirtless man and a man in a white T-shirt who were dragging a large tub and who left in what may have been a Mercury Tracer wagon.

A life-size bronze statue of a pioneer woman was stolen from an outdoor plaza at the museum. Officials believe scrap metal may have been the motive.

A reward of $1,000 is being offered for the arrest of the suspects and up to $4,000 for the safe return of the statue. Anyone with information is asked to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
