Robert Blurton was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the 2009 deaths of Donnie and Sharon Luetjen and the Luetjens’ teenage granddaughter, Taron Luetjen, in Cole Camp, Mo.
Blurton’s trial was moved to Clay County after a change of venue from Benton County. Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced the guilty verdicts Tuesday.
According to Koster, evidence showed that in June 2009, Blurton entered the Luetjens’ home, bound them and their granddaughter, shot all three and fled with money and other valuables. Sharon and Donnie Luetjen were Blurton’s aunt and uncle. Taron, 15, was a cousin.
“The Luetjen family and the close-knit community of Cole Camp deserved to see justice done,” Koster said in a statement. “I hope that these verdicts begin to bring some degree of closure.”
Cole Camp is about 20 miles south of Sedalia. The attorney general’s office assisted Benton County prosecutors in the case.
Sentencing by Clay County Circuit Judge Larry Harman is scheduled for Aug. 9.
