Thieves recently stole all the antennas and cabling off a Sprint cellphone tower in downtown Kansas City, rendering the tower useless and reducing coverage for many workers and visitors in nearby government buildings.

When Sprint sent an electrician to evaluate the tower June 5, thieves stole all his tools and replacement parts from his van.
But the tower is working now, according to a Sprint spokeswoman.
The theft was discovered after Kansas City police officers noticed trouble making and maintaining phone calls at police headquarters, 1125 Locust Street. They contacted Sprint last week, which sent a contractor to the tower atop a building about two blocks away.
The contractor told police he went into the building about 5:30 p.m. June 5 after parking his van on 12th Street. When he returned to his van 30 minutes later, a rear window had been broken and his Dewalt tools valued at more than $1,600 were missing.
