Leawood stabbing leads to standoff in Kansas City

Kansas City police said a man suspected of stabbing his uncle in Leawood held officers in a standoff early Wednesday.

The man is accused of stabbing his 63-year-old uncle in the face and leg with a knife about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 9400 block of State Line Road in Leawood. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The suspect fled across the state line. About midnight, Kansas City officers found his vehicle parked in the 1100 block of N.E. 52nd Place, outside the house where he recently had moved.

Police said the man had made statements before that prompted them to begin a standoff. Negotiations continued the suspect surrendered shortly after 4 a.m.
