Today’s lesson: When in a courtroom, never, ever, put your hands on your lawyer’s behind.

Because that move got former NFL player Chad Johnson tossed in jail this morning.

Johnson, formerly known as Ochocinco, was in a Broward County, Florida court today facing a judge for his recent probation violation in the domestic violence case concerning ex-wife Evelyn Lozada.

He’s on probation after pleading no contest to head-butting reality TV star Lozada during an altercation last August. She filed for divorce after just a few weeks of marriage and the Miami Dolphins released the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

His lawyer was just about to finalize a deal this morning with prosecutors that involved community service and counseling – but no jail time.

Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh said she would add on an additional three months of probation. Then she asked if Johnson was satisfied with his lawyer, Adam Swickle.

Johnson said he was ... then playfully reached out and slapped his lawyer’s butt, like athletes do to each other.

People in the courtroom laughed, and that really ticked off McHugh, who clearly thought Johnson was taking the whole thing as a joke.

“I don’t know that you’re taking this whole thing seriously. I just saw you slap your attorney on the backside. Is there something funny about what's going on here today?” the judge asked angrily.

“The whole courtroom was laughing. I’m not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn’t a joke.”

Johnson tried to apologize. “This is your courtroom. I have no intent to make this a joke. It's not funny,” he told her. “ My life is in a shambles right now and I try my best to laugh and keep a smile on my face.”

But McHugh made it clear that she had had enough, saying, “It's not the first time he’s behaved that way in my courtroom.”

Johnson was then handcuffed and hauled away to jail for 30 days for the probation violation.

Snickers, line one.

Someone needs to make this into one of those commercials where the person is all cranky and testy until someone shoves a Snickers bar in their mouth.
