Senate farm bill vote set for today

Updated: 2013-06-10T14:40:29Z

The Senate is expected to vote on a nearly $1 trillion, 10-year farm bill Monday afternoon.

It’s expected to pass.

Prospects in the House are more iffy.

Broadly, House members want more cuts in food stamps but less in commodity supports. The Senate takes the opposite approach.

There’s some hope the House will vote before the August recess. That would set up a conference committee that could have a final product for Congress after Labor Day.

Or not.

Congress couldn’t agree on a bill last year, so it just extended the current bill.
