Former Swinney Elementary sold

Updated: 2013-06-07T23:50:05Z

The former Swinney Elementary School west of the Country Club Plaza has been sold and will be converted into apartments.

The school at 1106 W. 47th St. was among many that were closed in 2010 by Kansas City Public Schools.

It was purchased by Kansas City Sustainable Development Partners, which announced Friday it has begun to convert the building into as many as 80 market-rate multifamily units along with several thousand square feet of commercial space.

The developer had previously planned to convert the building to medical offices.
