Coaches ready to help with a job hunt and handling money will be available starting June 18 at a center for low- and moderate-income residents.

The Prosperity Center for Financial Opportunity will be at 5151 Troost Ave. in Kansas City, which is part of the Rockhurst University campus.

Such centers have operated in 30 other markets. They connect qualified candidates, such as the working poor, with an employment coach, a financial coach and a specialist in access to public benefits.

Their aim is to work, through one or two years of coaching, to help an individual and family improve their incomes and wealth. Gains would come from greater job success, improved credit scores and other areas.

The Prosperity Center is a partnership among Catholic Charities Kansas City-St. Joseph, the Kansas City Full Employment Council, Greater Kansas City Local Initiatives Support Corp., Rockhurst University and the United Way of Greater Kansas City.

An open house for the public is scheduled at 10 a.m. June 14 with tours offered through 1 p.m. LISC said it plans to open three such centers in Kansas City.
