Three tournaments will be contested at Blue Springs and Blue Springs South beginning today. The championship games will be streamed on www.foxsportsmidwest.com.
1 An undefeated mark on the line
For perhaps the first time this season, unbeaten Kearney, 26-0, will be an underdog when it plays St. Dominic at 4 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs. St. Dominic, 24-0-1, is ranked by one website as the top team in the nation. Kearney counters with defense that has posted shutouts in 14 of 15 games. Lexie Howard paces the offense with 28 goals.
2 A farewell tour
In the last year before O’Hara merges with St. Mary’s, the soccer team is trying to send O’Hara out a winner. The Celtics, 18-3, face Duchesne, 13-9, at 3 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs South. Senior forward Sydney White leads a potent attack with 48 goals, and Bridget Wages has scored 30 goals.
3 Talent to spare
Talent alone suggests St. Teresa’s Academy, 17-2, is a favorite in Class 3. The Stars are particularly strong in the midfield. They’re led offensively by Savannah Trujillo, a Missouri commit who has scored a team-high 28 goals this season. St. Teresa’s matches up against St. Joseph’s, 18-2, at 7 p.m. at Blue Springs South.
