As the first Royals publicity director, Bob Wirz had an opportunity to collect a lot of memorabilia from the team. Working as spokesman for baseball commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth afforded him the same opportunity.

Wirz, however, has kept most of the items in storage, and he has decided to put much of his collection up for auction. You can find the 63 pieces at www.HuntAuctions.com, and the deadline for bids is May 29.
The lots are 66-71 and 196-253. Here are some of the noteworthy items:
** Large, black plastic letters K, C and R (about 14 inches high) from the scoreboard at Municipal Stadium closed in 1972.
** A large wall plaque with a mounted bat and the signatures (now fading) of the original 1969 Royals.
** Seven World Series press pins ('77-84), including the 1980 World Series in its original box.
** A 1980 Royals World Series baseball with 26 signatures, including George and Ken Brett, Otis, Wilson, Porter and Pattin.
** Very early (probably 1973) signed Royals and Montreal Expos baseballs.
** Lot of 12 All-Star Game bats between 1970 and 1984, including '73 in Kansas City, each with a metal placard engraved with the year and venue.
Wirzs official 1973 All-Star Game ring (green star sapphire) will be part of the 2013 Hunt Auction (online and live) at the time leading up to this year's All-Star Game.
