Shots fired in traffic stop in Leavenworth County

Updated: 2013-05-22T16:32:12Z

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper shot out the front tire of a vehicle that reportedly drove toward him Wednesday morning in rural Leavenworth County.

The trooper was not hurt in the incident just before 9 a.m. The trooper was conducting a traffic stop when the driver of a white Ford Explorer steered toward him and then fled from the area.

Officers were able to follow the vehicle’s path because of tire debris left in its wake and they discovered it abandoned about 15 minutes later in a wooded area north of Tonganoxie. A suspect was arrested shortly after that.
