Sprint, YRC lead gainers, DST falls

Regional stocks turned in another quiet day, with a couple of exceptions.

Shares in Sprint and YRC Worldwide were the biggest percentage gainers Tuesday. Sprint, the region’s larget public company, close at $7.39, up 10 cents, or 1.4 percent.

YRC gaied 99 cents, or 4.5 percent, to close at $23.05.

O n the other side, DST fell 1.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 52.30 points, or 0.34 percent, to close at 15,387.58.52

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose rose 2.87 points, or 0.17%, to close at 1,669.16. The Nasdaq composite rose 5.69 points, or 0.16%, to close at 3,502.12.

The BATS 1000 rose 36.38 points, or 0.19%, to close at 18,799.78Stock indexes wobbled between gains and losses in early trading, then took a turn higher after James Bullard, head of the Fed's St. Louis branch, said the Fed should keep buying bonds to energize the economic recovery.

Home Depot rose 2.5 percent after reporting an 18 percent increase in income.

More stocks rose than fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was average at 3.5 billion shares.

Regional stocks

Capitol Federal Financial fell 1 cents, or 0.08%, to close at $12.11.

Cerner Corp. rose 61 cents, or 0.63%, to close at $97.63.

Commerce Bancshares Inc. rose 23 cents, or 0.53%, to close at $43.67.

Compass Minerals fell 24 cents, or 0.27%, to close at $89.41.

DST Systems Inc. fell 91 cents, or 1.27%, to close at $70.82.

Ferrellgas Partners L.P. rose 42 cents, or 2.03%, to close at $21.10.

Garmin Ltd. rose 1 cents, or 0.03%, to close at $36.67.

Great Plains Energy rose 4 cents, or 0.17%, to close at $24.27.

H&R Block Inc. rose 3 cents, or 0.10%, to close at $29.64.

Inergy L.P. rose 19 cents, or 0.77%, to close at $24.98.

Kansas City Life Insurance Co. fell 17 cents, or 0.45%, to close at $37.81.

Kansas City Southern fell 92 cents, or 0.80%, to close at $113.78.

Layne Christensen Co. rose 22 cents, or 1.00%, to close at $22.26.

O'Reilly Automotive Inc. rose $1.30, or 1.17%, to close at $112.21.

Sprint Nextel Corp. rose 10 cents, or 1.37%, to close at $7.39.

UMB Financial Corp. rose 20 cents, or 0.38%, to close at $53.19.

Waddell & Reed Financial Corp. fell 27 cents, or 0.57%, to close at $47.14.

YRC Worldwide Inc. rose 99 cents, or 4.49%, to close at $23.05.
