The nation’s second-largest privately held automobile dealership said the 68,500-square-foot Hendrick Lexus showroom at 6935 W. Frontage Road will feature 38 service bays and have room for more than 400 new and pre-owned vehicles on its nearly 8.3 acre lot.
The dealership, formerly called Superior Lexus, will be the newest of all of Hendrick’s 87 dealerships around the country, the company said. On the same day, Superior Lexus North in the Northland will officially become Hendrick Lexus North.
Hendrick Automotive said Kansas City will be its first market to be completely branded under the Hendrick nameplate. The company operates eight dealerships and one standalone collision center in this area. The dealerships offer 10 different nameplates.
The auto dealer has more than 750 employees at its eight dealerships, including 177 at Hendrick Chevrolet Shawnee Mission.
In 2012, Hendrick said its area dealerships sold more than 11,000 new and used vehicles, with total sales revenue of more than $500 million. The company’s Toyota Scion dealership in Merriam sold about 2,600, the most among its group here.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based company has been in the Kansas City market since 1992 when it purchased the Acura, Nissan and Toyota franchises from Select Automotive Inc.
Nationwide, Hendrick operates in 13 states and employs more than 8,500 workers.
