Two men suffered critical injuries in two early Sunday morning shootings in Lawrence that police believe are related.

The two men, one 27 and the other 33, were being treated in Kansas City-area hospitals with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Their names have not been released, but police said both are from Topeka.

Police first were called to Club Magic in south Lawrence just around 3:40 a.m. by people in the nightclub who said a man had shown a gun during a dispute.

Officers headed to the nightclub heard gunshots coming from a few blocks north. More officers were called in, according to a Lawrence Police news release.

As officers responded to the sound of gunshots, a vehicle pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot in the 900 block of West 23rd Street, adjacent to Club Magic, and crashed into a parked police car. The driver of that car had been shot.

Around the same time, several 911 callers said they heard gunshots in the 800 block of Greever Terrace. When officers arrived, they found one man with two gunshot wounds.

A 22-year-old Topeka man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm inside Club Magic.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lawrence police at 785-832-7509 or CrimeStoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
