Zoo moves its next free day to a Tuesday
The next day for free admission to the Kansas City Zoo for residents of the zoo tax district will be June 25, a Tuesday.
The previous free day for residents of Jackson and Clay counties was on a Sunday and drew 29,455 people. On that day, April 7, a disturbance in the parking lot led to arrests and an injured police officer.
Julie Neemeyer, a spokeswoman for the zoo, said Friday the decision to move the next free day to a Tuesday was prompted by concerns over the zoo’s capacity and a desire for visitors to have a more enjoyable experience with a smaller crowd.
In addition to offering free admission for tax-district residents, the zoo will be open longer on June 25, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Four free days a year were promised to voters if their county joined the zoo tax district.
