It was a down day for most regional stocks, mirroring the trading mood on Wall Street.
Among the worst-performing regional companies, based on percentages, were O’Reilly Automotive, Great Plains Energy,Kansas City Southern and YRC Worldwide.
The winners included Garmin, up 1.4 percent; DST, up .8 percent; Waddell & Reed, up .8 percent, and Sprint, up .4 percent.
Meanwhile, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 42 points to close at 15,233 Thursday, a loss of 0.3 percent. Disney and Wal-Mart led the Dow lower.
The Standard & Poor's 500 fell eight to 1,650, or 0.5 percent. It was only the second loss for the S&P out of the last 11 days.
The Nasdaq fell six points to 3,465, or 0.2 percent.
The BATS 1000 fell 117.15 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 18,573.99.
Stocks were mixed most of the day, then slid in the last hour of trading.
Three stocks fell for every two that rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was average at 3.5 billion shares.
Capitol Federal Financial rose 1 cents, or 0.08%, to close at $11.98.
Cerner Corp. fell 54 cents, or 0.56%, to close at $96.38.
Commerce Bancshares Inc. rose 5 cents, or 0.12%, to close at $41.76.
Compass Minerals rose 40 cents, or 0.45%, to close at $89.25.
DST Systems Inc. rose 56 cents, or 0.80%, to close at $70.51.
Ferrellgas Partners L.P. fell 1 cents, or 0.05%, to close at $20.59.
Garmin Ltd. rose 51 cents, or 1.42%, to close at $36.39.
Great Plains Energy fell 35 cents, or 1.43%, to close at $24.06.
H&R Block Inc. rose 6 cents, or 0.21%, to close at $28.83.
Inergy L.P. fell 5 cents, or 0.21%, to close at $24.11.
Kansas City Life Insurance Co. rose 2 cents, or 0.05%, to close at $37.72.
Kansas City Southern fell 95 cents, or 0.81%, to close at $116.19.
Layne Christensen Co. rose 62 cents, or 2.90%, to close at $22.01.
O'Reilly Automotive Inc. fell $1.25, or 1.12%, to close at $110.71.
Sprint Nextel Corp. rose 3 cents, or 0.41%, to close at $7.28.
UMB Financial Corp. rose 12 cents, or 0.23%, to close at $52.04.
Waddell & Reed Financial Corp. rose 37 cents, or 0.80%, to close at $46.62.
YRC Worldwide Inc. fell 55 cents, or 2.86%, to close at $18.67.
