Former state Sen. Victor Callahan sits in a pretty interesting chair if the property appraisal snafu in Jackson County continues to expand.
By DAVE HELLING
Callahan is one of three members of the State Tax Commission.
Property owners upset with their appraisals must first file a protest with the county’s equalization board. If they aren’t happy, though, they can appeal again to the Tax Commission, based in Jefferson City.
There are three commission members, so Callahan can’t control the outcome. But if he can convince at least one of his colleagues to go along, the commission could prove a major embarrassment for Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders by rolling back hundreds of Jackson County appraisals.
Not to mention making himself a local hero.
More to come.
