Eyelet is a sweet, lace-like fabric with cut-out patterns in a variety of shapes and sizes. Typically made of cotton, eyelet fabric is widely seen as the epitome of girly-girl attire.

“Eyelet is fresh and crisp,” said Laura McGrew, designer and owner of Tomboy Design Studio, whose spring/summer line features two eyelet creations. “It’s breathable and airy, and it can be tailored without the weight.”

Actress Ashley Tisdale recently wore a sweet eyelet sundress by Rebecca Minkoff, and designer Rachel Roy included an exquisite eyelet dress in her spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection. Stores such as Tomboy, Ann Taylor Loft, J. Crew and Old Navy already have eyelet on their racks.

Eyelet is traditionally white, but this season, you can find it in several hues ranging from soft mint to neon blue.

Style it: Wear an eyelet top with skinny jeans, white denim or a cropped pant for three on-trend summer looks, McGrew said.
