BB gun forces lockdown of Lee's Summit school

Updated: 2013-05-09T00:21:13Z

A Lee’s Summit elementary school was locked down briefly Wednesday afternoon when someone was spotted outside with a gun.

It turned out to be a BB gun, Lee’s Summit police reported, and three juveniles were taken into custody and later released to their parents. The incident was reported about 4 p.m. at Chapel Lakes Elementary School in the 3700 block of Northeast Independence Avenue.

School officials ordered the lockdown after receiving a report that someone was seen on the school campus with a gun tucked into their waistband, according to police. Reports of the incident will be forwarded to juvenile authorities for possible charges.
