Updated: 2013-05-07T22:21:52Z

Rockhurst announced Tuesday that Kathy Strecker is the Hawks’ new women’s cross country coach. She will also serve as an assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator.

Next season will be the first that Rockhurst’s women’s cross country team competes in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference.

“We’re excited to add Kathy to our staff,” Rockhurst athletic director Gary Burns said in a statement. “She has the combination of commitment, passion and experience that we need to develop a strong cross country program. Her enthusiasm and energy in recruiting will provide immediate results in fielding a competitive team.”

Strecker was the girls cross country coach at Topeka Hayden for the past 23 years, where she won six Kansas 4A state titles.
