Missouri and Kansas ranked in the lower half of states with the most consumer complaints about identity theft, according to a report released Tuesday.

Data collected by IdentityProtection.com, a new website from the Equifax credit rating agency, said there were about 4,000 identity theft complaints filed by consumers in Missouri last year. That ranked Missouri at No. 27 among states.

Kansas was ranked 30th, with 2,077 identity theft complaints last year, the report said.

The information, which came from the Federal Trade Commission, ranked Florida No. 1 for identity theft. Other states in the top ten included Georgia, California, Michigan, New York, Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Maryland and Alabama.
