Police: Missouri couple put granddaughter in car trunk

Updated: 2013-05-07T12:38:07Z

— A central Missouri couple faces possible charges after police say they admitted putting their 5-year-old granddaughter in the trunk of their car.

KXEO-AM reports the Fulton couple were arrested Saturday afternoon outside a Menards hardware store in Jefferson City.

Police said a passer-by heard a voice from the trunk of the car yelling, “Let me out!”

The caller said she saw the adults get out of the vehicle and open the trunk, at which point the girl climbed out.

Officers said the grandparents told officers they bought some tables at another location and couldn't fit them and the girl inside the car, so they put the child in the trunk.

The girl was released unharmed to another relative. No charges had been filed against the grandparents as of Monday.
