— FC Kansas City stayed unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Reign late Saturday night in front of 2,618 at Starfire Stadium.

The Blues’ Renae Cuellar scored in the 69th minute, giving her a goal in all three FC Kansas City matches. She was set up by defender Becky Sauerbrunn, who made a run up the right sideline and made a cross-field pass.

“I got the ball and dribbled out of a bit of pressure and realized the whole right side was pretty open, so I just went for it,” Sauerbrunn said. “It was one of those plays you imagine in your mind but never actually think would happen. Everything clicked for that one play and it felt amazing.”

FC Kansas City is tied for second place in the National Women’s Soccer League with Boston at 2-0-1 and seven points. Portland leads the league at 3-0-1 and 10 points.

Blues goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart made three saves and picked up her second consecutive shutout.

FC Kansas City’s next match is 6:35 p.m. Saturday on the road against the Western New York Flash. The Blues return home for a 7:35 p.m. match on May 18 against Boston.
