The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited this operation for multiple health code violations:
• Sombrero’s Mexican Cantina, 22702 Midland Drive, Shawnee, had 15 violations during an April 18 routine inspection, including fresh salsa, cooked beef tacos and chicken tacos held at improper temperatures.
The owner had no comment.

Kansas City Health Department inspections:
• Juicy’s Burgers & Spirits, 8680 N.W. Prairie View Road, temporarily closed during a follow-up inspection on April 22.
It had four critical violations during an April 16 inspection. All the violations were corrected by the April 22 inspection. However, the restaurant did not have hot water during the April 22 inspection.
“We had already called the water heater specialist to correct the problem and I had gone to the hostess stand to close the restaurant,” said owner Michael Howell. “But the inspector was already in the kitchen. The issue was corrected within 25 minutes.”
The restaurant was reinspected on April 23, had no violations and was allowed to reopen

The Cass County Health Department cited this restaurant for multiple critical violations:
• Hardees’s, 2002 N. Commercial St., Harrisonville, had five critical violations during an April 18 routine inspection, including debris in the soda fountain and ice maker.
A manager had no comment.

The Environmental Health Division of the Jackson County Public Works Department cited these operations for multiple violations:
• 54th Street Grill & Bar, 12130 S. U.S. 71, Grandview, had five critical violations during an April 17 inspection, including raw chicken thawing next to raw shrimp, with water running over both.
“We have a good relationship with the health department. We are working on all violations and we will get them corrected,” said area director Benji Marcum.
• Grandview Buffet, 12407 Blue Ridge Extension, Grandview, had five critical violations during an April 16 inspection, including ready-to-eat foods stored directly under raw chicken being prepped for daily use.
The manager had no comment.
• Hy-Vee, 310 S.W. Ward Road, Lee’s Summit, had three critical violations during an April 16 inspection, including leaking boxes of raw chicken stored next to raw beef in a walk-in cooler.
“Critical violations were corrected immediately,” said Mike Luttenegger, manager of perishables.
• Meiners Market, 1229 S.W. Arborwalk Blvd., Lee’s Summit, had three critical violations during an April 18 inspection, including cartons of raw eggs and a package of raw bacon stored directly over ready-to-eat food in the walk-in cooler.
“Everything was corrected on site,” said owner David Meiners.
• The Roc Express cafe, 10500 E. Missouri 350, Raytown, had four critical violations during an April 9 inspection, including a container of nacho cheese in the cooler dated Feb. 16 to Feb. 23 and vegetable beef soup in a walk-in cooler dated April 1 (beyond seven-day limit, so the food was discarded).
The manager had no comment.
