Economics cheered the news Thursday that first-time claims for unemployment benefits had fallen to their lowest level in five years last week.

That means employers are laying off fewer workers.

On Wednesday, a whopping 1,000 job-seekers turned out to a job fair sponsored by Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder.

They were greeted by about 100 employers representing businesses from a variety of industries. Representatives from those employers were seated at tables where they advertised several thousand job openings.

Said Yoder, “Kansans are hard-workers, and those who attended today were optimistic about the possibility of finding employment at our Job Fair.”
