The Chiefs drafted Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings with their fifth round draft pick.

The 6-feet, 216-pound Commings started 35 games for the Bulldogs. The Chiefs already have Brandon Flowers, Sean Smith, Dunta Robinson and Javier Arenas, so there’s a crowd at cornerback and they can afford to allow him to develop.

He has good size and ran a 4.41 in the 40, so Commings appears to have the necessary skills to develop into a reliable player.

Commings served a two-game suspension last season after he was sentenced in March to a year of probation and ordered to receive counseling after he pleaded guilty to simple battery and disorderly conduct stemming from a Jan. 21 dispute he had with a former girlfriend.
