The Chiefs drafted Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson with the second pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

The 6-feet-2, 248-pound Johnson projects as an inside linebacker. He could compete for the starting spot alongside Derrick Johnson. The Chiefs have signed veteran free agents Akeem Jordan and Zac Diles to also compete for the starting spot.

Since the end of last season, Johnson had surgery for a sports hernia and did not participate in the NFL scouting combine. But Johnson didn’t have any other problems with injuries during his four seasons at Alabama.
