The woman, who owns an area jewelry business, said that after the burglary in March, GPS tracking devices were discovered on her vehicle and one owned by her son.
A suspect already facing charges in other crimes was charged earlier this week in connection with the break-in at the woman’s home.
Overland Park and Leawood police and Johnson County prosecutors declined to comment on the GPS allegation.
Steven Alva Glaze is charged in Johnson County District Court with 14 counts of criminal damage to property, theft, attempted burglary and burglary. All the crimes occurred in March.
His attorney, William Grimshaw, said he was continuing to investigate and declined to comment.
Glaze, 36, was arrested by Leawood police on March 21 after a homeowner saw someone peeking in a window and then breaking out glass next to his front door. The man fled when the homeowner shouted, and a nearby Leawood patrol car stopped a vehicle driven by Glaze.
He was initially charged in that case and with a burglary and theft the same day in Overland Park.
After further investigation, prosecutors filed 10 additional charges earlier this week. Glaze is out of jail after posting a $100,000 bond, according to Johnson County jail records.
On the day the woman’s home in the 13800 block of Horton Drive was burglarized, her alarm system went offline about 2 p.m. for an unknown reason, she said.
A neighbor also had noticed that about the same time a truck pulling a trailer pulled up to the house and then backed into the driveway.
“I came home about 5:30 p.m.,” said the woman, whose house has been undergoing remodeling and construction. “I had been storing things in the garage and when I walked in the garage, it was like a war zone.”
Glaze is accused of stealing more than $100,000 in jewelry, purses, wallets, luggage, coins and fur coats from the woman, although she said her loss is closer to $300,000.
