Independence seeks public help to stop wire thefts

Updated: 2013-04-26T03:27:06Z

Independence Power & Light officials are asking residents to help stop the theft of electric transmission wires from power poles.

Thieves, who are after the metal for its scrap value, have struck mainly north of Truman Road and west of Missouri 291. Utility officials say downed wires are dangerous.

Anyone seeing a downed wire or suspicious activity is asked to call 911 or the utility at 816-325-7550.
