A group of Kansas City area evangelical ministers is urging Congress to quickly approve comprehensive immigration reform.

The group, I Was a Stranger KC, convened a discussion and strategy session with area pastors and church officials Tuesday. More than 90 people took part in the two-hour meeting in Kansas City, Kan.
Too often, the church has been the last to stand up for the dignity of the most vulnerable, the groups statement says.
Organizer Kurt Rietema said the group wants to approach the topic from a biblical, not political, perspective.
How do we view the immigrant as image bearers of God, not with these kinds of labels like illegal? he asked.
The group plans an outreach effort and is urging supporters to call their senators and express support for immigration reform.
Hearings on the issue are underway in Washington.
