Grandview police said the latest incident occurred early Monday at a pharmacy in the 7200 block of East 147th Street. A Dodge van, which had been reported stolen in Kansas City, was found backed up to the front door of the business. The criminals were gone.
Last Thursday, thieves in Kansas City used the same method to break into a pharmacy at 3801 Independence Ave. They got away with 20 bottles of prescription-strength codeine cough syrup, Kansas City police said.
As in the Grandview case, they left a stolen van behind.
Drinking cough syrup containing codeine, an opiate, has been an increasingly popular method of getting high in some parts of the country in recent years, police said.
