Leadership awards

The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City presented its Leadership in Labor-Management Cooperation award last week to Sam Alpert, executive director of the Construction Users Council, at its awards and anniversary celebration. The council also honored Gary O’Bannon, Kansas City’s director of human resources, with its service award. More than 200 leaders from labor, management and government attended the event at the Argosy Casion.

Alpert was recognized for his support of workforce development in construction. He is a board member of the National Institute for Construction Excellence. He has supported the Kansas City Construction Partners, a labor-management effort to improve quality, safety and competitive construction services.

O’Bannon was recognized for his support of the Mid-Level Leadership Program, of which he is a graduate, and leadership for the Labor-Management council.

Labor Forum

This week’s radio show is a forum on public education, underwritten by Plumbers Local 8 and Blake and Uhlig. The broadcast on KKFI-FM will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, repeated at 5 a.m Friday.
