Johnson County District Judge James Franklin Davis followed plea negotiations and sentenced Adam C. Davis to two consecutive terms of life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. The arrangement means that Davis, 33, will have to serve 50 years before he is eligible for parole.
Davis pleaded guilty in February to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 24-year-old Amber Searles and the couple’s 4-month-old daughter, Kyra Searles-Davis.
Their bodies were found Sept. 16, 2011, in their home in the 1000 block of East Huntington Circle. The baby was found dead inside a metal dog cage and appeared to have been suffocated, according to testimony at a preliminary hearing. Searles had been struck on the head with a blunt object and strangled, according to testimony.
Olathe police were called to the house that day to investigate a disturbance. Davis was holding a gun when he greeted the officers and told them his neighbor had killed his girlfriend.
