Harrisonville student is charged with threatening to shoot up school

Updated: 2013-04-19T00:54:26Z

A student at Harrisonville High School has been charged with making threats during class to shoot up the school, kill his former girlfriend and cut off the head of her new boyfriend.

Jacob A. Vanderecken, 18, is charged with making a terroristic threat with reckless disregard of risk of evacuation or closure of a building. He has been suspended for the rest of the school year.

Court documents say Vanderecken admitted to police and school officials during questioning that he made the threats to kill people at school and then himself.

A search of Vanderecken’s residence found no weapons, documents say.

He told officials, the documents state, that he was angry at his former girlfriend and made the threats to scare her, get attention and see how people would react.
