Google, meet Game of Thrones.
Google Fiber announced Tuesday that it has added HBO and Cinemax to the lineup of its television subscriptions. That leaves just AMC home to the martini-marinated Mad Men and popular zombiefest The Walking Dead NBA packages and a handful of other offerings among the prominent channels still missing from its lineup.
The absence of such channels was seen as a possible hindrance to the widespread acceptance of Google Fiber in place of traditional cable TV.
For an extra $20 a month, subscribers can now add HBO, HBO2, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Latino, HBO Comedy and HBO Zone to their channel selections. For another $10 a month, customers can get Max, MoreMax, ActionMax, ThrillerMax, WMax, @Max, 5-StarMax and OuterMax.
Google Fiber sells ultra-fast Internet service far faster than most home broadband paired with a standard TV package for $120 a month to customers who agree to two-year contracts. It was first hooked up to a few homes in Kansas City, Kan., in November and is still available in only a handful of neighborhoods in the city.
