Skirt the style issue

Special to The Star

Skirts often sit on closet sidelines while dresses and skinny jeans steal the show. This spring, BCBG Max Azria made the skirt powerful in eight eye-popping colors and a complimentary cut.

The high-waisted “power skirt” by BCBG Max Azria has a stretchy, spandex waistband, which slims the silhouette nicely without any added bulk. The length seems to be on target for 20-somethings, and the rest of us can wear tights underneath.

“Our power skirts are the ultimate wardrobe staple. They are flattering on every body shape, and you can dress it up or down,” says Lubov Azria, chief creative officer of the company.

Form-fitting skirts that hit above the knee aren’t for the faint of heart, but they can stretch your wardrobe by adding some fun to ordinary separates, such as a basic button-down shirt. Pair silhouette-shaping skirts with blazers, cardigans, tees, tanks and sweaters for easy day or night looks.
