The chief investment officer at American Century Investments has taken a similar job at the Janus mutual fund group in Denver.

Enrique Chang, 50, will become chief investment officer of equities and asset allocation at Janus Capital Group Inc. He starts in September, though his official duties at American Century have ended.

At American Century, Chang oversaw six others who each headed investment operations for a separate area. For example, Dave MacEwen is chief investment officer for fixed income investing and Mark Kopinski is chief investment officer for global and non-U.S. equity investing.

These six will report directly to American Century chief executive Jonathan Thomas until a successor is named.

Chang had been chief investment officer at Kansas City-based American Century since 2007. During his tenure, Chang and the investment officers put in place a system that added greater risk awareness and accountability to the investment process.

Janus said Chang’s duties would cover Janus’ equity, risk management and alternatives teams. He also would work with others in developing investments that employ multiple strategies.
