The Roasterie is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new blend.

The coffee will debut Tuesday at the three area Roasterie Cafes, at the company’s online store, some other local coffee shops, and rolled out to more than 60 area grocery stores.
Danny O’Neill, founder of the Roasterie, describes the new 20th Anniversary Platinum Blend as “soft, rich, smooth, mellow, creamy, with a long smooth sweet aftertaste.”
The Kansas City-based specialty coffee-roasting company services espresso bars, coffeehouses, fine restaurants, grocers, offices, and retailers, along with selling directly to consumers.
Its coffees are air-roasted and it imports only 100 percent Arabica specialty grade coffees from more than 30 different countries.
O'Neill first picked up a batch of fresh coffee beans while studying in Costa Rica in late 1978 and was hooked. Fifteen years later he founded the Roasterie in the basement of his Brookside home. He partnered directly with farmers so they would receive higher prices for their beans instead of paying a middleman.
In late 2005 he opened his first Roasterie Cafe in Brookside and now also has locations in Leawood and at the Roasterie headquarters on the city's west side, at 1204 W. 27th St.
“It’s been a great journey, totally rewarding, and we’ve been woven into the Kansas City community,” O’Neill said. “What goes through my mind is gratitude and appreciation.”
