Updated: 2013-04-06T18:23:05Z

A fire caused about $30,000 in damage to an Overland Park home Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

Emergency crews were called to a residence in the 9800 block of West 98th Terrace shortly before 10 a.m. on a reported house fire. A resident was inside the home did not realize the residence was on fire. Motorists driving through an adjacent neighborhood on Antioch Road spotted the flames and dialed 911.

Heavy smoke and fire poured from the rear of the two-story residence as firefighters arrived. Flames traveled up the back of the house and into the first floor and the attic.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames on the outside and then the interior walls and attic. The fire was contained to the rear of the house. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
