Her name was not released, pending notification of relatives.
A housekeeper found the body about 11 a.m. Thursday at the Knights Inn at Interstate 70 and Woods Chapel Road.
A cause of death had not been released Friday, but investigators said it appeared that some type of struggle had occurred in the womans room, where she had lived since July. Nothing appeared to have been taken, said Sgt. Joe Fanara, a police spokesman.
Investigators interviewed several people but made no arrests. Fanara said the victim previously lived in northern Missouri. She was disabled, but Fanara would not elaborate.
Neighbors described the victim as pleasant, friendly and always willing to help others. She allowed neighbors to store food in a small freezer she kept in her room, they said.
She moved to the motel to be close to relatives and was trying to lose weight before having surgery, the neighbors said.
