The company had been seeking a Kansas City presence for several years and began talks with Larkin about 16 months ago.
“It fits well in a number of ways,” Mike McMeekin, president of what’s now called Larkin Lamp Rynearson, said Wednesday. “We hope it will be a way to become a respected part of the Kansas City engineering community quickly.”
McMeekin said his firm had wanted to acquire additional expertise in water, waste water and other water-related projects. Larkin Group, which was founded in 1946, fit the bill nicely.
Lamp Rynearson, which started in 1959, specializes in civil engineering, project management, land development, surveying and transportation engineering.
“This is going to allow us to broaden our services for our clients,” said Tony O’Malley, a co-owner at Larkin and leader of the firm’s water group. “We’ll have a deeper bench to draw on to do bigger projects and the ability to do work for companies in the Omaha and Kansas City market.”
Larkin employs about 30 people at its headquarters at 9200 Ward Parkway, and recently hired a business development staffer and is seeking a marketing coordinator. Several additional jobs are expected to be created as well at the expanded company.
Lamp Rynearson has about 90 employees in Omaha and 18 at its Fort Collins, Colo., office.
O’Malley said the new, larger venture should provide a comfort level for the company moving forward. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This provides a clear transition into the future for both our clients and our employees,” O’Malley said.
