Kansas City Life to service line of variable insurance products

Updated: 2013-04-03T15:22:23Z

Kansas City Life Insurance Co. plans to begin servicing variable life insurance policies and variable annuities from American Family Life Insurance Co. starting in early 2014.

The Kansas City-based company said Wednesday it had agreed to a transfer of about 34,350 contracts and policies from American Family. The Madison, Wisc.-based firm discontinued the sale of variable products in 2009 but continued to service existing policies and annuities.

The transfer requires the approval of the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.
