Until now, the Metro’s Interstate 29 service from downtown to KCI has served just Terminal C on weekdays until 7 p.m. Riders had to call for late night or weekend service. But beginning Sunday, the buses will serve all airport terminals hourly from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
The change is intended to benefit airport workers and passengers, said Cindy Baker, spokeswoman for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority.
“These were all part of our comprehensive service analysis,” Baker said.
The KCATA spent two years studying travel patterns and population shifts along all its routes and made changes to 54 routes. Some adjustments previously were announced for routes south of the Missouri River.
Along with more service to KCI, the bus system is adding Shoal Creek Parkway to the Liberty Express and lowering the fare on that route from $3.25 to $3. Transit is also being introduced to the New Mark and Gashland areas of the Northland on the route that serves Metro North Shopping Center.
