Jackson County prosecutors on Thursday accused a 32-year-old woman of hitting another woman in the face with a pickaxe during a drunken argument.

The 42-year-old victim suffered cuts, bruises and swelling to her face, including a severe cut to her ear.

Prosecutors charged Roxanne N. DeLong, of Kansas City, with assault and armed criminal action in connection with the incident at DeLong’s home about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of Poplar Avenue.

The victim told police DeLong invited her over, started an argument and hit her. A witness said the suspect and victim had been drinking. DeLong told police she consumed “mass quantities” of alcohol and that she had “no recollection of any incidents,” according to court records.
