Closures around I-35 in Johnson County set this weekend for construction work

Updated: 2013-03-29T03:31:10Z

Several construction projects will pose a challenge for motorists in Johnson County starting tonight.

The exit ramp from southbound Interstate 35 to 119th Street as well as the entrance ramp from 119th Street to northbound I-35 will be closed tonight for sawing and concrete work.

The ramps will close at 9 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday.

Southbound I-35 traffic will be detoured to 135th Street, where it can exit. Meanwhile, traffic on 119th Street will detour to 135th Street, where it can access northbound I-35.

The ramps will close again at 8 p.m. Friday and reopen to traffic at 10 p.m. Saturday.

Also tonight, all lanes of southbound I-35 from U.S. 56/175th Street to Kansas 33 will be closed for bridge construction.

The closure will start at 10 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. Friday. The highway is being closed so bridge girders can be set for the new Homestead Lane Bridge.

Southbound I-35 traffic will detour along U.S. 56 to Kansas 33 and back to southbound I-35.

The ramp and lane closures will cause major delays. Drivers should use alternate routes.
