Passenger killed in T-bone crash on U.S. 69 near Liberty

A 61-year-old Kansas City man died from injuries suffered in a wreck on U.S. 69 near Liberty Tuesday night.

Charles E. Tinkey was a passenger in a 2003 Kia Optima driven by Dora A. Zimmerman, 79, of Liberty, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday as Zimmerman was driving on Northeast 112th Street.

Zimmerman failed to yield to a 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup driven north on U.S. 69 by Sarah M. Weppler, 18, of Excelsior Springs, according to the highway patrol.

The pickup struck the passenger side of Optima.

Tinkey was pronounced dead at the hospital. Zimmerman suffered serious injuries and Weppler suffered moderate injuries.

All three were wearing seat belts.
