Comcast boosts Internet speeds for Olathe, Independence customers

Updated: 2013-03-26T04:13:44Z

Comcast said it is increasing the download speeds of three of its most popular Internet service tiers in its Independence and Olathe service territories.

The company’s Xfinity customers will see speeds that are nearly twice as fast on multiple devices as they surf the Internet, chat, stream movies and play games online. Comcast said there is no extra charge for the service.

Comcast has been boosting Internet speeds in its markets around the county, most recently in California and Texas.

Comcast said download speeds for the Blast! tier service will increase from 25 Mbps to up to 50 Mbps, and upload speeds will climb from 4 Mbps to up to 10. Performance tier customers will go from 15 Mbps to up to 25, with upload service going to 5 Mbps from 2. Extreme 50 customers will receive download speeds up to 105 Mbps from 50, and upload speeds up to 20 Mbps from 15.

To activate the new service, Comcast said customers need to “power-cycle” their cable modems.
