Updated: 2013-03-24T02:17:21Z

A suspected drunken driver hit a pedestrian in the 2100 block of Summit Street early Saturday while fleeing from Kansas City police.

The incident began about 12:30 a.m. when officers saw the driver hit a curb and median downtown. They stopped her, approached her vehicle and noted she appeared drunk before she sped away to the city’s Westside. With officers in pursuit, she drove along Summit Street, where police said she hit a man standing by a parked car near West Pennway Street, knocking him unconscious. Police followed the 41-year-old driver into her hometown of Kansas City, Kan., where she was arrested. The victim’s injuries were initially described as critical, but his condition was improving late Saturday, said police Sgt. Bill Mahoney.
