Belton man identified as body in submerged car

Updated: 2013-03-21T16:46:06Z

A body found earlier this week in a burned, submerged car in a Cass County lake has been identified as 27-year-old George Wood of Belton.

Authorities say there is no clear sign of foul play. The body was discovered Monday as Cass County sheriff’s deputies removed a vehicle from a lake in the Bittern Bottoms Conservation Area southwest of Harrisonville.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body as Wood’s. Investigators say it may take several weeks for a final report on cause of death.
