The Chiefs signaled their intentions with backup tight end Steve Maneri before the start of free agency, when they declined to offer him a minimum one-year contract that would have allowed them to secure his rights.

So Maneri became free to sign with another team, and that’s what he did today when he joined the Chicago Bears.

Maneri played in 13 games last season with eight starts. He caught five passes for 55 yards.

The Chiefs at tight end have Tony Moeaki, the recently signed Anthony Fasano and Kevin Brock.
